Research Highlight

Long-term changes in the summer monsoon rainfall, over central India, during 1900-2018.

The large-scale secular changes in monsoon rainfall are attributed to the increase in global emissions of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. At the same time, local changes through urbanization, land use changes and deforestation have brought in a non-uniform response in these rainfall trends.

Research Collaboration with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at Hokkaido University, Japan, on the role of ocean on the Asian monsoon intraseasonal variability.

Scientific Activities:

Active leadership in the compilation and installation of the coupled general circulation model NCEP Climate Forecast System (CFSv2) with post-processor, and development of Earth System Model (ESM), at CCCR, IITM. Devised numerical experiments to study the implications of climate change, with a focus on the Asian monsoon domain.
Experience in using NEC SX-9/HPC-IBM P6 supercomputers for climate modeling.

Academic Activities:

Lecture on the possibilities and use of the meteorological software, Climate Data Operators (CDO), at CCCR, IITM.
